Through fieldwork, exercises and image review and evaluation sessions – workshop participants will receive tuition and encouragement to develop:

  • A critical appreciation of creative photography, understanding the play of light on the form of the land to create artistic photographic landscapes in scenic rural South Australia.
  • An appreciation of creative portraiture and the role of lights and form in creating artistic portraits in interesting field locations
  • An appreciation of compositional elements within photography and how to best arrange them in the camera.
  • Your understanding of lens choices for your photography – zooms vs prime lenses.
  • An ability to produce creative photographs when the light isn’t good – low light and middle of the day photography.
  • An ability to constructively evaluate your own and others’ photographic work.
  • An understanding of your preferred photographic style and how to break out of your comfort zone to try something different.

The presenters aim is that by the end of the workshop you will be inspired by the creative possibilities provided by the workshop locations and subjects, and the skills you have learned or had refreshed during this workshop.

Both presenters believe there are no rules to photography – this workshop is based on testing your ideas with some useful tips borne from experience of what works in different situations.

The presenters have extensive experience with colour and monochrome photography.

The workshop is aimed at amateur photographers, from the beginner to the experienced. Workshop content will be tailored to the experience levels of the workshop participants, from beginners to experienced users of DSLR cameras.
